Alleged Blasphemy: Butcher Murdered by Extremist Mob in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Usman Buda, a butcher, who died on Sunday as a result of an alleged blasphemous remark he made about the Islamic Prophet, Muhammad bin Abdullah. The police have initiated an inquiry to apprehend the perpetrators of this horrible crime and ensure justice is served.

The mob was able to escape the scene, leaving the victim comatose. He was quickly rescued and taken to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for medical assistance, but regrettably died as a result of his injuries.

The incident reportedly occurred at the main Sokoto abattoir at around 8 a.m. on Sunday when the butcher got into a heated fight with another vendor. According to sources, some of Buda’s other business partners in the market attempted to step in, but they ended up getting hurt themselves because of how vicious the radicals engaged were.

The Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, responded to this horrific incident by saying, “At around 9:20 a.m., we received a distress call reporting that Usman Buda from Gwandu Local Government Area, a butcher at Sokoto Abattoir, allegedly uttered blasphemous remarks against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which led to him being mobbed and attacked.”

Following their getting of the information, the Area Commander Metro, the DPO Kwanni, and the Commissioner of Police quickly put together a team of officers and operational commanders to respond to the scene.

The victim was unconscious when help arrived since the mob had already left. He was thankfully saved and brought right away to Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital in Sokoto for medical care. Unfortunately, the doctors confirmed his premature death. To catch the offenders and ensure they face the full weight of the law, a thorough investigation is ongoing in the meanwhile.
